[Financial News] A yacht moored offshore near a resort in Geoje City, South Gyeongsang Province, caught fire and two yachts were destroyed, but a swift response from fire authorities and the Coast Guard fortunately prevented any casualties.
According to the Changwon Coast Guard Station and the South Gyeongsang Province Fire Department, among others, a fire broke out aboard two of five yachts moored in the sea near a resort in Neungso-ri, Jangmok-myeon, Geoje City, South Gyeongsang Province, between 9:16 and 9:19 p.m. that night.
After receiving a fire report, the Changwon Coast Guard and fire departments in South Gyeongsang Province, Changwon and Busan dispatched 18 vehicles, 47 personnel and three fireboats to the scene. In particular, a 540-ton fireboat belonging to the Busan Port Fireboat Unit actively supported firefighting efforts by spraying water at a high volume of 160,000 liters per minute.
To prevent the flames from spreading, authorities quickly moved the other three yachts moored at the marina to a safe location. After intensive firefighting efforts, they completely extinguished the blaze at around 11:10 p.m., about 1 hour and 50 minutes after it broke out.
No casualties were reported in the fire. The Coast Guard and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the property damage.
