[Financial News] CCTV footage confirmed that a regular customer at a gukbap restaurant secretly put a wet wipe in his food, complained that he had found a foreign object, and left without paying. The restaurant owners repeatedly apologized to him, but their son-in-law later reviewed the footage and revealed what had happened.
According to JTBC’s Scandal Supervisor on the 2nd, source A said that his in-laws, who run a gukbap restaurant in Incheon, had a baffling experience with a regular customer.
The incident took place on October 28. That day, a male customer who visited the restaurant complained that he had found a wet wipe in the gukbap he ordered.
A’s mother-in-law was washing dishes at the time. When she heard the customer’s complaint, she hurried out and apologized. She repeatedly said she was sorry until the man left the restaurant, and did not charge him for the gukbap in question.
But after A later reviewed the restaurant’s CCTV footage, it emerged that the customer’s complaint did not match the facts.
The footage showed the man hiding a wet wipe between the dishes, then picking it up with chopsticks and putting it in his gukbap. The food served by the restaurant had not contained a foreign object; the customer had put the wet wipe in himself.
What’s more, the man was not a first-time customer. According to A, he had been coming to the restaurant for so long that A’s in-laws even knew his name.
After reviewing the footage, A told his in-laws, “Let’s report this to the police.” But the two restaurant owners reportedly tried to dissuade him, saying, “He’s a customer we’ve known for a long time; he must have had his reasons for doing that.”
Hoping to prevent similar incidents from happening again, A sent the CCTV footage to JTBC’s Scandal Supervisor. A said, “I hope something like this never happens again.”
