[Financial News] The YouTube channel of actress Cha Ye-ryun (41), who is embroiled in allegations of school violence, will disable some videos and comment sections. The production team said the measure is intended to prevent the spread of false information and personal attacks targeting her family, while Cha Ye-ryun’s agency denies the allegations.
According to the YouTube channel “Cha Jang-geum Cha Ye-ryun,” the production team said in a notice on the 1st that Cha Ye-ryun does not personally manage the comments. The statement came after claims spread online that Cha had been deleting unfavorable comments since the allegations of school violence were raised.
The production team explained, “YouTube comments are managed at the production team’s discretion, without the cast’s involvement.” It added, “While the matter is being reviewed, we will disable some videos and comment sections to prevent the indiscriminate spread of rumors and personal attacks on family members,” and asked subscribers for their understanding.
The production team said its response was delayed because it learned of the allegations while in the United States. “We learned of the current matter while on a schedule in the U.S. with actress Cha Ye-ryun,” the team said, adding, “Please understand that our response was delayed.”
The allegations of school violence began after a post titled “1985-born actress who perpetrated school violence, please stop working already” was published on an online community on October 29.
The author, identified as A, claimed to have been bullied by someone now working as an actress while attending a middle school in Seoul. A said the harassment and assaults continued in classrooms, bathrooms and playgrounds, as well as in buildings near the school, and that a slap had ruptured their eardrum.
However, A did not reveal the name of the person they accused of being the perpetrator in the post. Some netizens later identified Cha Ye-ryun as the actress based on the birth year and school background listed in the post.
On October 30, Cha Ye-ryun’s agency, HB Entertainment, categorically denied the allegations of school violence, saying, “Our checks found them to be groundless.”
Posts continued to appear from netizens claiming they had attended the same school as Cha Ye-ryun, even after her agency issued its statement. However, the claims they posted online have not been objectively verified.
Cha Ye-ryun made her acting debut in the 2005 film “Whispering Corridors 4: Voice.” She later appeared in dramas including “Royal Family,” “Glamorous Temptation” and “Elegant Mother and Daughter.” She married actor Joo Sang-wook in 2017, and they have one daughter.
