[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) is introducing online booking for in-person consultations for candidates taking pilot licensing exams. It will also add English Proficiency Test for Aviation (EPTA) booths to expand opportunities for pilots and air traffic controllers to take the test.
TS said on the 2nd that it would launch an in-person consultation service using the booking features of the NAVER Map app and Smart Place. Applicants visiting the customer service office at the Aviation Qualification Test Center for an eligibility review or certificate issuance can book an appointment in advance.
Starting on the 3rd, TS will expand the number of EPTA test booths from 11 to 13, increasing the available test slots by about 20%.
Pilots and air traffic controllers engaged in international aviation operations must obtain an aviation English oral proficiency certificate at Level 4 or higher on the scale of Levels 1 to 6, in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. A Level 4 certificate is valid for three years, and there have been cases where a surge in applicants nearing expiration left some unable to secure a test opportunity.
TS expects the additional booths to ease these difficulties. Since 2021, it has also operated a traveling aviation qualification exam service for areas far from designated test centers. Last September, it distributed a casebook analyzing eligibility reviews and recurring complaints over the past five years.
TS Chairman Yong-Sik Jung said, "We will continue to actively reflect the voices from the field and provide aviation qualification services that satisfy test takers."
