K-water said it signed an implementation agreement with Hanwha Galleria for the “Luxury Hall Water-Source Energy Supply Project” at Hanwha Galleria’s headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 2nd.
The total supply capacity for the west and east wings combined will be 2,700 RT (9.5 MW). This is equivalent to about 38% of the Luxury Hall’s total cooling capacity of 7,100 RT and about 76% of its heating capacity of 3,550 RT.
Water-source energy uses water temperatures—which are lower than the air in summer and higher in winter—for heating and cooling. The project will use the Phase 1 metropolitan raw-water pipeline in the Seoul metropolitan area. K-water will conduct technical reviews required to branch off the pipeline, attend the completion inspection, and support a stable raw-water supply, among other responsibilities.
The supply will be rolled out in stages in line with the redevelopment schedule. Construction of the pipeline and buildings for the west wing is expected to be completed by December 2030, with supply set to begin in January 2031. For the east wing, the goal is to complete construction in December 2033 and begin supply in January 2034.
K-water is expanding the use of water-source energy beyond large commercial and mixed-use facilities to include apartment complexes and industrial parks. It plans to establish a supply system with a total capacity of 1 GW by 2030.
Oh Bong-geun, head of the Renewable Energy Division, said, “Going forward, we will continue to expand the use of water-source energy in large urban buildings and key infrastructure, supported by a stable supply of water sources and technical assistance, and contribute to reducing national greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.”
