【Financial News, Ulsan = reporter Choi Soo-sang】Hyundai Motor Company's Ulsan Plant No. 5, which produces the Genesis G70, G80, and G90, suspended operations on the 2nd amid labor-management conflict.
According to Hyundai Motor Company's Ulsan plant, a labor-management dispute arose that day as a G80 hybrid test vehicle was being brought into the GENESIS trim shop at Ulsan Plant No. 5. Union delegates blocked it, halting operations on Lines 1 and 2.
The company announced that, effective 10:05 a.m., “the no-work, no-pay policy will apply to all employees in the GENESIS trim shop due to the unauthorized line stoppage.” The number of union members in the GENESIS trim shop is reported to be around 800.
The dispute erupted during talks over man-hours (MH) for mass production of new GENESIS models.
Man-hours refer to the staffing and labor input required for production. When a new model is introduced, the production process or workload may differ from before.
The company says it sought labor-management agreement to mass-produce the G80 hybrid and a facelifted G90, but the union's shop-floor delegates rejected the proposal, preventing normal talks from taking place.
The delegates are reportedly concerned that the number of workers assigned to the production line could fall after the new model is introduced.
