[Financial News] The University of Seoul (UOS) held its first standalone admissions briefing in Hanoi, Vietnam, as it set out to attract international students from the area. With the number of Vietnamese students studying in Korea having nearly doubled in three years, the university’s faculty traveled to Vietnam to introduce its admissions process and curricula and recruit talented students.
UOS said on the 2nd that it held the “University of Seoul Admissions Briefing Comes to Hanoi” at the College of Foreign Languages at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU Hanoi) on October 30. About 360 people attended, including students currently enrolled in Korean-language departments at local universities.
Faculty from six colleges—the College of Political Science and Economics, College of Business Administration, College of Humanities, College of Natural Sciences, College of Computing, and College of Engineering—as well as the Korean Language Education Center took part in the briefing.
The faculty explained each college’s curriculum, the characteristics of its majors, and its admissions process, and held one-on-one consultations at counseling booths for each college. This allowed students preparing to study in Korea to ask questions directly about everything from choosing a major to the admissions process.
Vietnam is a country from which the number of international students coming to Korea is growing rapidly. The number of Vietnamese students studying in Korea rose from 37,940 in 2022 to 75,144 in 2025, nearly doubling. In Vietnam, 164 elementary and secondary schools had adopted Korean as of the 2025–2026 academic year, with 34,315 students studying the language.
UOS plans to strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese educational institutions in response to the expansion of Korean-language education in Vietnam and growing demand for study in Korea.
UOS President Won Yongkul said, “The University of Seoul’s first standalone admissions briefing will go beyond being a simple promotional event and serve as a starting point for attracting outstanding talent from overseas, including Vietnam, and promoting international exchanges. We will build multi-tiered cooperation models with local governments, universities, and private institutions to expand long-term, sustainable exchanges of talent.”
