[Financial News] As the number of older expectant mothers and patients with infertility rises, the role of university hospitals in caring for high-risk deliveries is growing. Drawing on its multidisciplinary care system, Ewha Womans University Mother and Baby Hospital surpassed 7,000 cumulative deliveries in May and reached 8,000 just five months later.
The hospital held a ceremony marking 8,000 deliveries on the 28th of last month, in front of the Baby Welcome Room on the hospital’s eighth floor, with key officials in attendance. The 8,000th baby was the second daughter born to Ms. A by cesarean section at 8:32 a.m. on the 20th of last month.
Ewha Womans University Mother and Baby Hospital safely handles an average of 180 or more deliveries each month. It has continued to increase its number of deliveries despite the trend of low birth rates.
The hospital’s strength lies in its tailored care system for high-risk mothers and newborns. Medical staff from relevant departments, including obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics (neonatology), work closely together to provide round-the-clock monitoring of high-risk mothers, fetuses and newborns. The hospital offers a one-stop care pathway, with the delivery room, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Maternal-Fetal Intensive Care Unit (MFICU) all located on the same floor. It has also developed a patient-centered care environment, including a system in which the attending physician oversees delivery.
Hospital Director Park Mi-hye emphasized, “With the rise in older expectant mothers and patients with infertility, the role of university hospitals that high-risk mothers can turn to with confidence has become even more important. Reaching 8,000 cumulative deliveries is the result of everyone at the hospital working together to build a safe delivery environment. We will continue to fulfill our role as a safety net for high-risk births, protecting the lives of all mothers and babies.”
