[Financial News] Lee Hyoung-il, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, met with Michelle Park Steel, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to South Korea, at Government Complex-Seoul on the 2nd to discuss current issues in ROK-U.S. economic cooperation and ways to develop it going forward.
Lee congratulated Ambassador Steel on taking up her post and said the ROK-U.S. Alliance was broadening the scope of cooperation beyond security to the economy as a whole, including advanced industries, energy and supply chains. He added that he particularly hoped Ambassador Steel, who has a deep understanding of both South Korea and the United States, would serve as a bridge to expanded economic cooperation.
The two sides exchanged views on ROK-U.S. strategic investment, trade issues and other matters. Lee said close communication was needed to smoothly coordinate economic issues between the two countries and called on the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Korea to play an active role.

The two sides also stressed that economic cooperation should be expanded to ensure the continued development of the ROK-U.S. Alliance.
