Photo: Beom-jun Park President Lee Jae-myung delivered an address in a plenary session of the National Assembly on the 2027 budget proposal, which totals 821 trillion won, the largest ever, on the 2nd. The ruling and opposition parties showed sharply contrasting reactions.
Lawmakers from the ruling bloc, including the Democratic Party of Korea, responded enthusiastically, applauding a total of 30 times during the speech and asking for selfies after it ended. By contrast, People Power Party lawmakers staged a silent protest with protest placards attached to their laptops, while some booed or walked out midway.
Despite opposition lawmakers' resistance and disruptive interjections, President Lee tried to engage in dialogue and continued his speech. However, most People Power Party lawmakers, except Rep. Cho Kyung-tae, left after it ended, and tensions between the ruling and opposition parties persisted.
