【Financial News, Wonju = Kim Gi-seop, reporter】Wonju City is holding an event where 200 residents will walk the autumn forest trail at Chiaksan Wind Path Forest, where the abandoned Jungang Line railway was converted into a forest trail.
According to Wonju City on the 2nd, the Wonju Oxygen (O2) Trail walk will take place on the 7th at the central plaza of Chiaksan Wind Path Forest. There is no participation fee, and registration is open to the first 200 applicants. All participants will receive a souvenir and bottled water. The city’s Sports Division is accepting applications.
After the opening ceremony at the central plaza, participants will walk the course together, which takes about 60–90 minutes. The gentle slope makes it manageable for everyone from children to older adults, and the city will have an ambulance on standby at the site to prepare for injuries and other safety incidents.
The event venue, Wind Path Forest, is an urban forest trail that opened last year and stretches 11.3 kilometers from Halla Vivaldi Apartment in Usan-dong to Bangok Station. Local welfare organizations will also run campaign booths at the site that day to raise awareness of efforts to overcome the climate crisis and promote resource recycling.
Kwon Seong-hyeok, head of the city’s Sports Division, said, “Wind Path Forest, where an abandoned railway has been reborn as an 11.3-kilometer forest trail, is one of Wonju’s signature retreats where people can enjoy nature in the heart of the city. I hope it will be a chance to soothe weary bodies and minds while walking through the autumn woods and to reflect together on the importance of resource recycling and responding to the climate crisis.”
