[Financial News] The family of the victim in the attempted murder case involving a station attendant at Wondang Station has called for the suspect to be severely punished. A person who identified themselves as a family member said online that the victim’s condition at the time of the incident was more horrific than had been reported, and pleaded for station attendant A, who has been detained, to be severely punished.
On the 1st, according to police and legal sources, A was detained on suspicion of trying to kill B, a female colleague and fellow station attendant, by repeatedly swinging a weapon at her in the station office at Wondang Station in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, at around 12:30 p.m. on the 28th of last month.
Since the incident, B’s family members have shared information about her injuries on online forums and appealed for blood donations. B’s husband said, “A miracle happened, and thankfully my wife is recovering,” and explained, “She has now regained consciousness, but she still has major surgery ahead and is unable to give a statement.”
He went on to claim, “A said he couldn’t remember committing the crime, which raises suspicions that he planned to use his psychiatric history to seek a reduced sentence,” adding, “I’ve come to suspect that the perpetrator was trying to get his sentence reduced. I hope he receives the full force of the law.”
He emphasized, “I hope his sentence won’t be reduced solely because of his psychiatric history, without the brutality of the crime and the extent of the harm being taken into account.”
On the 31st of last month, a user who identified themselves as a family member of B also posted messages on social media (SNS) describing what happened at the time of the incident and B’s condition.
A poster who identified themselves as B’s younger sibling said, “The victim was slashed so badly that her face was difficult to recognize, and major blood vessels near her neck and even blood vessels inside her spine were severely damaged,” adding that she had lost close to 3 liters of blood in the incident.
The poster also claimed, “The suspect is said to have stabbed the victim in the neck from behind with a mountaineering knife. He had been carrying a weapon for months,” adding, “I simply can’t see this as an impulsive crime.”
The poster emphasized, “Given that the suspect approached from behind and stabbed the victim in the neck, had been carrying a weapon for a long time, and just before his arrest sprayed himself with a spray he had prepared in advance in an apparent attempt to justify his history of mental illness, it is difficult to accept his claims at face value.”
The poster said, “There is only one thing I want,” adding, “For this case not to be downplayed, for the facts to be accurately revealed, and for the investigation and trial to be conducted fairly,” and called for the suspect to be severely punished.
The Goyang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, which is investigating the case, requested an arrest warrant for A on suspicion of attempted murder. On the 30th of last month, the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court issued the warrant, saying, “The criminal allegations are substantiated, and there is a risk of flight.”
A stated, “I became enraged and committed the crime because B muttered, ‘It smells of cigarettes.’” He is also said to have made conflicting claims, saying, “I took too much of the medication I usually take for bipolar disorder,” and, “I don’t remember what happened at the time of the crime.” Police are currently investigating the specific circumstances of the incident with A.
