[Financial News] A night market where visitors can buy small-business products at discounted prices and enjoy performances will be held at Seoul Plaza. To encourage office workers to shop after work, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will extend the event hours by two hours compared with last year and issue dedicated gift certificates that can be used at the site at a 10% discount. The Seoul Metropolitan Government said on the 2nd that it will hold the “2026 Seoul Metropolitan Government Small Business Owners’ Day Commemorative Event” at Seoul Plaza on the 6th. The event was organized to mark Small Business Owners’ Day, observed every year on November 5, and to invigorate local commercial districts and help small-business owners expand their sales channels.
This year, in connection with the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s “24-Hour Vibrant Economy City” policy, the event hours have been extended from 7 p.m. last year to 9 p.m. The event combines shopping, food and cultural performances so that office workers who find it difficult to visit during the day can come after work. Camping chairs, tables and parasols will be set up in the plaza so visitors can relax while enjoying the performances and shopping.
Forty-seven small-business brands will take part. They will sell food and drinks, including herbal samgyetang meal kits, tea and egg tarts, as well as lifestyle and fashion items such as handmade soap, accessories and leather goods. Fifteen of the businesses grew with support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s startup and market-access programs.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will also sell “Small Business Happiness Gift Certificates,” which can be used only at the event, at a 10% discount. The certificates can be purchased through the Seoul Pay Plus (Seoul Pay+) app starting at 10 a.m. on the 6th and used at the small-business market at Seoul Plaza until 9 p.m. that day.
Cultural and hands-on programs will also be available. Visitors can enjoy caricatures, face painting and instant photo sessions for free from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those who take part in a stamp tour by collecting stamps as they walk around the event venue can receive small-business products and souvenirs.
Fusion Korean traditional music, jazz and acoustic performances will run from 6 p.m. to 8:40 p.m. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to keep visitors at the venue longer and boost evening spending by providing performance and relaxation areas together.
Park Gyeong-hwan, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Civil Affairs and Labor Bureau, said, “I hope this event will help support small-business owners.”
