[Financial News] Brazil's conservative camp is also reacting coldly to Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator from the Liberal Party (PL) who headed to the United States to avoid action by judicial authorities after rejecting the presidential election results, and appears to be cutting ties with him.
According to local Brazilian media on the 1st, Valdemar Costa Neto, leader of the PL, to which Senator Bolsonaro belongs, publicly questioned a statement Bolsonaro issued in the United States. Costa Neto stressed, “The priority now should be to move the country forward, rather than weigh the party's interests.”
Tarcísio de Freitas, governor of São Paulo and a possible next presidential candidate for the right, also said, “The results of this presidential election must be respected.” A former military officer, he was appointed minister during the administration of former President Jair Bolsonaro, Senator Bolsonaro's father, and won reelection as governor in this round of local elections.
The Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) and Brazil Union (União Brasil), which supported Senator Bolsonaro in the runoff, also said they accepted the election results. Aécio Neves, leader of the PSDB, said, “I cannot understand Senator Bolsonaro's attitude,” and criticized his attempt to lead Brazil's opposition while staying abroad.
