[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), together with Gimcheon City, encouraged around 6,200 marathon participants to follow safety rules from the run through their journey home.
TS said on the 2nd that it had held the 'Accident-Free Today, Too' on-site campaign in conjunction with the '2026 Gimcheon National Marathon,' held on the 1st at the auxiliary stadium of Gimcheon Comprehensive Sports Town.
The race featured 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer and half-marathon courses, and TS provided safety guidelines tailored to each section. At the midpoint, it urged runners not to push themselves too hard, and at water stations, it emphasized staying hydrated. In the latter part of the race and at the finish line, it urged participants to finish safely and travel home safely.
Traffic safety stickers were also distributed to participants. TS introduced 12 safety guidelines, including slowing down on rain-slick roads, avoiding drowsy driving, taking care when driving at night, resting during long drives and wearing seat belts.
'Accident-Free Today, Too' is a pan-government traffic safety campaign promoting safe practices in everyday life at transport hubs, tourist destinations, local festivals and sporting events. Gimcheon City was developed last year as the nation's first local-government-led model, the 'No. 1 Accident-Free City,' and promotes safety guidelines at major transport hubs and in everyday public spaces.
Yong-Sik Jung, chairman of TS, said, "TS will continue to do its utmost to spread a culture of traffic safety as a safe mobility partner that protects everyone's daily lives, and to create a transportation environment where the public can travel safely."
