[Financial News] On Monday the 2nd, skies across the country will be mostly cloudy before clearing from the morning. Highs are expected to range from 14°C to 20°C. Strong winds will blow mainly along the west coast and in Jeju, and yellow dust could temporarily raise fine-dust concentrations in some areas.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the country will be under the influence of a high-pressure system moving east from near the Shandong Peninsula in China. Temperatures are expected to be near or slightly below average for this time of year.
Rain is forecast only in some parts of Jeju. Less than 5 mm of rain is expected in the mid-mountain and mountainous areas of Jeju through 9 a.m. No precipitation is forecast elsewhere in the country.
Strong winds are expected mainly along the west coast and in Jeju. Gusts in these areas are expected to reach 55 km/h, and around 70 km/h in mountainous areas. Winds are also expected to strengthen along the east coast of North Gyeongsang Province between tonight and early morning on the 3rd.
High waves are expected over the waters. In waters around Jeju and the far offshore waters of the eastern South Sea, where rough-sea advisories have been issued, winds are expected to blow strongly at 35–55 km/h, with waves reaching 1.5–3.5 m. Waves in the central East Sea offshore waters are also expected to rise to 1.0–2.5 m as winds strengthen from this afternoon.
Yellow dust may also affect some areas. As dust originating from the Inner Mongolia Plateau and elsewhere on the 31st of last month passes over the country, PM10 concentrations could temporarily rise from early morning through the afternoon in parts of the west coast and Jeju. However, the areas affected, duration and concentration of the dust may vary depending on airflow.
Fog with visibility below 1 km is forecast through 9 a.m. in inland Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, inland areas of the Chungcheong region, and inland North Gyeongsang. Fog could become denser, especially on roads near rivers, lakes and valleys, so drivers should take care.
Cold weather is expected on the morning of the 3rd. As cold air moves down from the northwest, morning temperatures are expected to be about 5–8 degrees lower than on the 2nd, ranging from 0°C to 9°C. The daily temperature range will widen to around 15 degrees in most parts of the country, and frost is expected in several inland areas. Ice may also form in some areas of eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, inland areas of the Chungcheong region, northeastern North Jeolla, and the northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang.
