[Financial News] Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. has renamed the submarine cable-laying vessel 'Skandi Connector,' which it acquired last May, 'Taihan Connector' and will use it in its domestic and overseas submarine cable business. The company plans to operate it alongside its existing cable-laying vessel Palos, tailoring deployment to project scale and construction conditions.
Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. announced on the 2nd that it would rename Skandi Connector, its dedicated submarine cable-laying vessel (CLV), 'Taihan Connector.'
The new name incorporates 'Taihan,' part of the company name, to reflect the vessel's identity as a ship owned by Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. The company retained 'Connector' from the previous name to carry forward the vessel's construction track record and recognition. Before selecting the new name, it also held a naming contest for employees.
The Taihan Connector is a cable-laying vessel of approximately 11,000 tons that Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. acquired from Norwegian offshore construction company DOF. It can carry up to 7,000 tons of submarine cable at a time. It can be used not only for inter-array and export cable networks at offshore wind farms, but also for long-distance grid interconnections and the installation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables.
The vessel has been deployed on a total of 27 projects and has laid approximately 1,300 km of submarine cable. Drawing on this construction experience, Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. is expected to deploy the vessel on submarine cable projects in Korea and overseas.
Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. operates a fleet of CLVs for offshore wind farms comprising the Palos and the Taihan Connector. The company plans to use the two vessels to meet project-specific construction needs, taking into account the required cable load and site conditions. It aims to strengthen its turnkey capabilities—handling everything from submarine cable design and production to transportation and installation—and expand business opportunities.
A Taihan Cable & Solution Co., Ltd. representative said, “The Taihan Connector is a key asset that symbolizes Taihan Cable & Solution’s brand identity and submarine cable installation capabilities. Building on our two CLVs, we will take on a range of submarine cable projects and continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global market.”
