[Financial News] The Bank of Korea and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO will open a special exhibition on currency on the 3rd, under the theme “World Heritage Inscribed on Commemorative Coins—History, Culture and Nature Recorded through Coins.”
The exhibition will run for one year, from that day through October 31 next year, at the Bank of Korea Money Museum in Jung District, Seoul.
On the 2nd, the Bank of Korea said the exhibition would highlight the excellence of Korea’s World Heritage and the significance of commemorative coins by displaying coins issued on the theme of World Heritage alongside related artifacts, videos, photographs, documents and other archival materials.
The exhibition space will consist of an introduction (video room), the main exhibition and an epilogue (experience zone). It will also offer a range of interactive educational activities, including touching models of World Heritage sites, finding hidden heritage on coins and viewing enlarged images of coins.
Bank of Korea Senior Deputy Governor Kwon Min Soo said, “We have organized the display of World Heritage commemorative coins into three themes—history, culture and nature—to offer a varied, multidimensional viewing experience,” adding, “We plan to work with various institutions to take the exhibition to different regions as a traveling show.”
Hong Hyun-ik, secretary-general of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, said, “World Heritage inscribed on commemorative coins is both a record and a message showing us what we should remember and protect,” adding, “This is a meaningful opportunity to encounter World Heritage in a more approachable way and reflect together on its value.”
