【Financial News, Incheon = Han Gab-soo, reporter】 Incheon Metropolitan City is launching a public outreach campaign using taxis and vehicles that provide mobility assistance for people with mobility needs to promote its bid to host the 2028 Group of Twenty (G20) Summit. The plan is to use taxis, which residents and domestic and international visitors encounter in their daily lives, as “ambassadors on the move” and build momentum for the summit bid across the city.
Incheon Metropolitan City said on the 2nd that, starting this month, 4,606 vehicles—including 4,000 private and company-operated taxis in the region and 606 vehicles providing mobility assistance for people with mobility needs—will operate with stickers promoting Incheon's bid to host the G20 Summit affixed.
The stickers will carry the slogan, “2028 G20 Summit—Now, Incheon!” They will be affixed to the outside of the vehicles so residents and visitors can come across the bid message while the vehicles are in service.
This campaign stands out for moving beyond simply putting up banners or billboards and making use of residents' everyday spaces and travel routes. The aim is to repeatedly communicate Incheon's resolve to host the summit through taxis that carry countless residents and visitors every day and travel along roads throughout the city.
The stickers will be distributed and affixed in cooperation with the taxi industry. For company-operated taxis, the Incheon City Taxi Transportation Business Association will allocate stickers based on factors such as the number of vehicles each company operates, and each company will affix them to its fleet.
For private taxis, stickers will be available at the Incheon City Private Taxi Transportation Business Association's office and at three charging stations operated by the association. Drivers who wish to display one can pick it up themselves and attach it to their vehicle, on a voluntary basis.
As of the end of September 2026, Incheon had 14,331 licensed taxis in total: 8,946 private taxis and 5,385 company-operated taxis. A separate 606 vehicles providing transportation assistance for people with disabilities and others with mobility needs are also in operation. The current campaign will include 4,000 taxis and all of the mobility-assistance vehicles.
Including vehicles that provide mobility assistance, such as on-demand taxis for people with disabilities, also reflects an aim to broaden public participation. The message promoting the summit bid will be conveyed through everyday transportation services, rather than through a campaign limited to a particular event or group.
Alongside the vehicle campaign, the city is also conducting a signature drive among transport workers in the private and company-operated taxi sectors in support of Incheon's bid to host the G20 Summit. The plan is to encourage voluntary participation from the taxi industry and expand the bid effort into a joint public-private campaign.
The city plans to continue a range of promotional activities, working with the taxi industry and relevant organizations, and to build public consensus for hosting the G20 Summit.
Park Seong-sun, head of the city's Transportation Policy Bureau, said, “I hope this campaign will help raise public interest in and build consensus around Incheon's bid to host the 2028 G20 Summit.”
