Hyundai Motor Company said on the 2nd that at least 70,000 people attended the six rounds held at circuits in Yongin, Yeongam County and Inje, and that Kim Young-chan won the top-tier Gran Turismo eN1 Class championship.
Hyundai N Festival is Korea’s largest one-make racing competition, succeeding the Click Speed Festival (2003–2010) and the Korea Speed Festival (2011–2018). In a one-make race, drivers race the same model of car, and the result is decided solely by their driving skills.
This year’s competition began with Round 1 at Everland Speedway in Yongin on May 8–10, followed by Round 2 at Korea International Circuit in Yeongam County on June 19–21, Round 3 at Inje Speedium on July 10–12, and Round 4 at Inje Speedium on October 2–4. Rounds 5 and 6 were held at Everland Speedway in Yongin from October 30 to November 1.
There are four classes: the top-tier Gran Turismo eN1 Class, whose drivers compete in Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Cars and contribute to the validation of high-performance electric vehicle technology; the Kumho N1 Class, raced in Hyundai Elantra N1 Cup Cars; the Nexen N2 Class, raced in Hyundai Avante N2 Cup Cars; and the Nexen N3 Class, established this year. N3 is a class where newcomers to racing can compete safely in Hyundai Avante N2 Cup Cars.
The champions were Kim Young-chan in the Gran Turismo eN1 Class, with Team DCT Racing and tire manufacturer Kumho Tire; Kwon Hyuk-jin in the Kumho N1 Class, with Team DCT Racing; and Lee Sol-gi in the Nexen N2 Class. The materials did not specify the Nexen N3 Class champion.
Hyundai Motor Company President José Muñoz and Lee Young-ho, head of the Global Business Management Division and a vice president, visited the event and attended the Kumho N1 Class awards ceremony.
Muñoz said, “For more than 20 years, Hyundai N Festival has been Hyundai Motor Company’s flagship motorsports event, built together by participating drivers and fans, as well as an important platform where customers can experience high-performance technology and the excitement of motorsports firsthand.”
He added, “We will continue to actively incorporate the technology and experience gained from motorsports into vehicle development, while expanding opportunities for customers to experience motorsports and connect with Hyundai Motor Company.”
This season, the N Festival introduced the Night Race and the Endurance Race for the first time at Round 3: drivers raced on a dark track at night, while two or three drivers took turns racing for three hours to test endurance and strategy. Hyundai Motor Company also offered attractions for spectators, including Grid Walk, where they could see all the race cars and drivers on the track; N Minicar, a toy car race for children; and N Taxi, which lets spectators experience the track as passengers in cars driven by professional drivers.
