[Financial News] LG CNS has completed construction of a 30-MW-class hyperscale artificial intelligence data center (AIDC) in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is the first case of a Korean company directly building an overseas customer’s AI data center locally. LG CNS also secured customers for the facility’s full capacity before construction was completed.
According to LG CNS on the 2nd, the project was commissioned last year by KMG, a joint venture between Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management. The project is significant because it demonstrates in overseas markets the AI data center design, build and operate (DBO) capabilities LG CNS has developed in Korea.
LG CNS designed and built the data center as scalable infrastructure that can reliably support high-performance computing based on next-generation graphics processing units (GPUs). Taking into account the high heat output of AI servers, it introduced a hybrid cooling structure combining air cooling and liquid cooling. The first phase uses an air-cooling system that circulates air to lower the internal temperature. In a subsequent phase, LG CNS plans to add a liquid-cooling system that controls GPU heat more efficiently, providing cooling infrastructure optimized for high-density AI server environments.
LG CNS also built a power system capable of reliably supporting high-density environments requiring at least 300 kW per rack. That is about 60 times the power needed for a typical data center rack, enabling a stable power supply for AI computing resources with multiple GPUs installed in a single rack. The company also built redundancy into the power infrastructure, allowing the facility to operate reliably 24 hours a day, 365 days a year using backup power even if the main power supply is interrupted.
The project used an integrated “One LG” solution. Combining LG CNS’s DBO capabilities with core expertise from across the group—including LG Electronics’ air-conditioning systems and LG Energy Solution’s batteries—the project provided integrated power, cooling and energy infrastructure. Through this, LG CNS brought the group’s integrated capabilities to an overseas AI infrastructure project and secured a reference for expanding its global AI data center business using the “One LG” solution.
LG CNS is currently designing the next phase of construction. Once that phase is complete, the facility is expected to expand to a total power intake capacity of 400 MW and become one of Indonesia’s leading large-scale AI data centers.
LG CNS is also pursuing AI data center business expansion in other Asia-Pacific markets, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan. It plans to strengthen its competitiveness in the global AI data center business and actively respond to growing demand for AI infrastructure.
Meanwhile, LG CNS, Korea’s No. 1 data center operator, is continuing to grow revenue from its data center business by introducing a range of business models in Korea. It has expanded its portfolio to include colocation and DBO, prefabricated modular data centers that enable rapid AI data center construction, GPU as a Service (GPUaaS), which provides GPUs on a subscription basis, and liquid-cooling infrastructure construction. Going forward, it will use these offerings as a basis to expand its AI factory business, linking it with AI platforms and services.
LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-gyun said, “Completing construction of the AI data center in Indonesia is a meaningful achievement: LG CNS has delivered the data center capabilities it developed in Korea to an overseas customer and demonstrated its business competitiveness in the global market. Using this as a springboard, we will expand our AI data center and AI factory businesses in global markets, including the Asia-Pacific region, where demand for AI computing is surging.”
