[Financial News]  Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.'s first clip-on wireless earbuds, Galaxy Buds On, are showing signs of becoming a hit after selling out their initial online stock soon after launch. The open-ear design that does not block the ears and the stable fit are believed to have attracted consumers' attention. In particular, the product's convenience for everyday use as well as exercise is thought to have contributed to strong early sales.
Industry sources said on the 1st that Galaxy Buds On, launched in South Korea by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. on the 27th of last month, had sold out the entire initial stock allocated to major online sales channels as of the afternoon of the 30th of that month. In effect, the initial stock was gone just four days after launch.
Customers can reportedly select a delivery date on Samsung.com starting on the 8th. At major online retailers such as Coupang and Naver, prepared stock has also sold out quickly since sales began, and orders are now being taken mainly for scheduled delivery. However, depending on inventory at individual locations, some offline stores may still have units available for immediate purchase.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. plans to secure additional stock to meet initial demand, which has exceeded expectations. With a surge in online orders raising the possibility of delivery delays, the company is expected to focus on expanding supply and shortening wait times.
The strong early sales are seen as the result of consumer interest in a wearing style that differs from that of the existing Galaxy Buds lineup. Unlike conventional wireless earbuds that are inserted into the ear, Galaxy Buds On has a clip-on design that rests on the outer ear. Its open design leaves the ears unblocked, allowing users to hear their surroundings while listening to music.
A shape-memory alloy is also used to improve comfort. The earbuds are designed to reduce pressure on the ears while staying securely in place even during movement. They are considered especially useful for people who need to stay aware of their surroundings while running or exercising outdoors.
Considerable attention was also paid to sound quality. The earbuds feature “Twin Boost Speaker,” which delivers rich bass, and “sound leakage reduction technology,” which reduces sound escaping to the outside. They also support “Intelligent Clear Call,” a feature that helps make the user's voice clearer to the other person during calls.
Convenience through artificial intelligence (AI) features has also been enhanced. Connected to Galaxy AI, the earbuds let users call up an AI assistant by voice and give it the commands they need. This allows users to access features by voice even while exercising or working, when it may be difficult to operate a smartphone directly.
Reviews by buyers on major online retailers such as Coupang have also praised the fit, sound quality and call performance. Some buyers cited the earbuds' secure fit, even when they moved their heads significantly while exercising. Others said they could hear music and call audio relatively clearly even in noisy surroundings.
Industry observers believe the early sales momentum for Galaxy Buds On could also have a positive effect on Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.'s expansion of its wireless earbud lineup. After introducing the Galaxy Buds 4 series in the first half of this year, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. added clip-on earbuds as well, broadening the choices available for different usage environments and wearing styles.
A Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. representative said, “Encouraged by customer response that has exceeded our expectations, we will quickly secure additional stock and work to ensure deliveries proceed promptly.”
