[Financial News] Busan City's joint delivery platform for shipyards has established a system for jointly delivering shipbuilding equipment that encompasses major domestic shipyards such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean, as well as regional shipyards such as HJ Shipbuilding & Construction and SB Daesun.
Busan City announced that it would launch joint delivery services for cargo bound for Hanwha Ocean starting on the 1st, as part of its Shipbuilding Equipment Joint Delivery Platform Establishment and Operation Project.
The city's joint delivery platform for shipbuilding equipment is a logistics service that gathers cargo from multiple equipment suppliers and delivers it in bulk to shipyards and other destinations. It operates to reduce the logistics costs associated with individual shipments and improve delivery efficiency.
Based on delivery deadline information provided in advance by shipyards, the platform uses large vehicles to visit multiple suppliers, collect their delivery cargo and transport it to shipyards in bulk. This improves delivery logistics by reducing transportation costs and streamlining work through delivery handling on suppliers' behalf.
When joint transportation is difficult, suppliers can also use individual transport services tailored to their shipment volumes and delivery schedules. Both joint deliveries and individual transport are available at rates averaging 15% lower than prevailing market rates, and up to 25% lower.
Users can access the joint delivery platform via the web or mobile devices to request transportation and conveniently manage transport records. For information on registration and how to use the service, visit the Busan Shipbuilding & Marine Equipment Industry Cooperative's website or call its main phone line.
The city expects this service expansion to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation among major shipyards, regional shipyards and small and medium-sized equipment suppliers. It also projected that increased joint transport volumes and more efficient logistics operations would help improve the logistics system, including by easing vehicle congestion within shipyards.
Mayor Jeon Jae-soo said, “This expansion of the joint delivery platform is an example of how support from Busan City and cooperation among major shipyards, regional shipyards and small and medium-sized equipment suppliers have led to tangible logistics cost savings.” He added, “I will continue to actively support efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the region's shipbuilding and marine industries and enable shipyards and equipment suppliers to grow together.”
