[Financial News] Incheon International Airport Corporation has launched training for youth from immigrant backgrounds, offering hands-on experiences with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and web app development. The initiative aims to strengthen young people’s digital skills through practical training that lets them experience advanced technologies used at the airport and create programs using AI. The corporation is expanding the scope of its social contribution activities by incorporating AI education into its existing academic and emotional mentoring programs.
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on November 1 that it had held the “Incheon Airport Value Jump AI Camp” for youth from immigrant backgrounds on October 31 at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 and the Aviation Training Center.
The camp was held for the first time this year as part of “Incheon Airport Value Jump,” the corporation’s flagship social contribution initiative. Around 100 people took part, including youth from immigrant backgrounds in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, university student volunteers, and mentors from among the corporation’s employees.
Incheon Airport Value Jump is a mentoring program that supports the academic and emotional growth of youth from immigrant backgrounds. In its sixth iteration this year, the program has 500 young participants, 130 university student mentors, and 30 mentors from among the corporation’s employees.
The camp featured an “AI Tour,” where participants experienced AI technology used at the airport, and “AI Education,” where they turned their ideas into working programs.
The AI Tour gave participants the opportunity to talk with an AI-powered virtual human at Incheon Airport, visit a digital exhibition experience center, and try out an airport guidance robot. In the AI Education session, they took part in practical training to develop web apps based on ideas they had come up with during the tour.
In particular, participants used “Vibe Coding,” an approach in which AI generates code after users describe their ideas in everyday language. The training was designed to help even young people with limited programming knowledge turn their ideas into working programs.
A 13-year-old participant in the camp said, “Experiencing future technologies used at the airport firsthand was much more vivid and fun.” The participant added, “It was fascinating to turn my idea into a real app, and I want to keep studying coding and become someone who solves a range of problems through technology.”
Ga-Kyun Shin, head of the Management Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, “I hope this camp gave young people a meaningful opportunity to experience AI firsthand at the airport and broaden their career paths and options.” Shin added, “We will continue to actively support young people from diverse backgrounds so they can grow into talented individuals in future society.”
Meanwhile, in addition to its education support program for youth from immigrant backgrounds, Incheon International Airport Corporation runs a range of social contribution initiatives to help people settle in Korea, including inviting parents from immigrant-background families, supporting youth career exploration, and providing food culture support.
