[Financial News] Large crowds gathered around Itaewon in Yongsan District, Seoul, on the night of October 31, Halloween, so late-night trains on Subway Line 6 passing through Itaewon Station went through without stopping.
At 11:42 p.m. on the 31st, the Yongsan District Office in Seoul announced via a disaster and safety text alert, “Because of crowding around Itaewon World Food Culture Street, trains will pass through Itaewon Station without stopping from 11:47 p.m.” It then urged people to avoid entering Itaewon Station and to use nearby Noksapyeong Station or Hangangjin Station instead.
The last trains at Itaewon Station were originally scheduled to depart at 11:59 p.m. that day in both directions—toward Eungam Loop and toward Sinnae—and trains continued to pass through without stopping during the last-train period.
According to Seoul’s real-time urban data, as of 11 p.m. on the 31st, just before trains began passing through without stopping, 32,000–34,000 people had gathered in the Itaewon Special Tourist Zone, with crowding rated “busy.” Even in the early hours of the 1st, after midnight, police and safety personnel from the Yongsan District Office were deployed around Itaewon, continuing efforts to disperse crowds and maintain order on site.
