According to business circles on the 31st, Chairman Chey met with CEO Altman at an undisclosed location in Seoul that day, and they had lunch together. The two sides are believed to have focused their discussions on existing areas of cooperation, including the supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and the construction of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
Chairman Chey and CEO Altman have maintained regular contact. The two also exchanged views on long-term cooperation in AI infrastructure at the 'AI Summit' held in San Francisco, U.S., last July.
SK Group and OpenAI signed a strategic partnership in October last year to build global AI infrastructure, agreeing to cooperate on supplying memory semiconductors and building AI data centers in South Korea. At the time, the two companies signed a letter of intent (LOI) for memory supply and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation for an AI data center in the southwestern region.
At the time, SK hynix outlined plans to establish a production system capable of responding to requests for HBM supply of up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month. SK Telecom agreed to jointly build an AI data center with OpenAI in the southwestern region and, based on it, cooperate in identifying AI use cases for businesses and consumers and developing next-generation data center technologies.
