[Financial News] Around 50 executives from key Samsung Group affiliates met with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, to discuss future business strategies in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). The meeting was organized as part of executive training for Samsung’s company-wide push for AX. On the 31st, Samsung held the “Executive Meeting with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman” at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Around 50 executives from key affiliates in electronics, finance and biotech, including Samsung Electronics, attended the meeting that day.
The Samsung executives exchanged views with CEO Altman on the direction of AI technology, its potential applications, and emerging markets and business opportunities, under the theme “The Next 10 Years Shaped by AI and the Choices Facing Companies.”
Samsung Electronics and OpenAI signed a letter of intent (LOI) last October to cooperate on building global AI infrastructure, and have been pursuing the supply of memory chips needed for OpenAI’s “Stargate” project.
At the time, Samsung SDS agreed to cooperate on building AI data centers and developing enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries agreed to pursue the joint development of offshore floating data centers.
The two companies have continued to engage with each other; in July this year, for example, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco, United States.
Before meeting with CEO Altman that day, the Samsung executives also took part in hands-on training in generative AI. They learned how to use AI to organize scattered business materials, build their own “knowledge repository,” and use it for decision-making, among other things.
Since June, Samsung has been pushing ahead in earnest with its “AI Great Transformation,” introducing AI across all areas, including research and development (R&D), production, marketing and support operations.
To this end, Samsung is developing ways to use AI that suit each affiliate’s business characteristics and work environment, and its dedicated AI organizations are supporting the development of AX strategies and the operation of data and AI models.
Samsung is also continuing to expand access to AI training. Starting with executive training in June, the company has rolled out AI training for about 2,300 executives, and plans to complete AI training for all employees and executives by next February.
