[Financial News] Samsung invited Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, to a meeting on the 31st to discuss future management strategies under the theme “The next 10 years that artificial intelligence (AI) will change.”
Around 50 executives from Samsung affiliates in electronics, finance, biotechnology and other sectors attended the meeting with CEO Altman as guest. It was held that day at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, for executives of major affiliates, including Samsung Electronics.
Samsung executives and CEO Altman reviewed the direction of AI technology development and its potential applications, and exchanged views on the markets and business opportunities that could emerge as a result.
Samsung said they also discussed the capabilities executives will need in a new business environment while examining the impact AI could have on corporate decision-making and organizational operations.
The company said the meeting was held as part of executive training to promote company-wide artificial intelligence transformation (AX), with the aim of improving executives’ understanding of AI and exploring future management strategies.
This reflects the belief that competitiveness in the AI era stems from executives’ judgment and ability to execute, and that Samsung’s executive team is taking the lead in fostering a culture of learning about and using AI.
Samsung Electronics and OpenAI signed a letter of intent (LOI) last October to cooperate on building global AI infrastructure. They are putting that cooperation into practice, including by pursuing the supply of memory chips needed for OpenAI’s Stargate Project.
At the time, Samsung SDS agreed to cooperate on building AI data centers and developing enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries agreed to jointly develop offshore floating data centers.
In July this year, Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, visited OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco, United States, and exchanges between the two companies have continued.
