[Financial News] Japanese semiconductor company Kioxia Holdings posted record-high first-half results.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun and other media on the 31st, Kioxia Holdings said the previous day that revenue for the first half of fiscal 2026 (April–September) totaled 4.2471 trillion yen (36 trillion won), 5.4 times the figure for the same period last year.
Net profit for the same period also came to 2.1978 trillion yen (18.6 trillion won), 37.3 times the figure for the same period last year. Both revenue and net profit were record highs for a half-year.
Kioxia Holdings said it analyzed that demand for NAND flash, a storage semiconductor used in data centers, had risen sharply amid the rapid spread of AI (artificial intelligence).
For the nine months from April through December, revenue is projected to reach 6.7471 trillion yen (57.2 trillion yen), 5.1 times the figure for the same period a year earlier, while net profit is forecast at 3.5578 trillion yen (30.1 trillion won), 24.2 times the year-earlier figure.
Kioxia Vice President Yoshihiko Kawamura said, “Nearly all products scheduled for production next year have already been sold,” adding, “Demand is very strong.”
Earlier, in 2018, SK hynix invested a total of 391.6 billion won after joining a Kioxia acquisition consortium led by U.S. firm Bain Capital. Of that amount, 263.71 billion won was invested in a special purpose company (SPC1) that indirectly held Kioxia shares, while the remaining 127.89 billion won was used to acquire convertible bonds issued by a separate special purpose company (SPC2). After Kioxia was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2024, SPC1 gradually sold off its shares and completed the sale of its remaining stake in June this year.
SK hynix said it would return most of the gains realized this year from its Kioxia investment to shareholders as a special dividend. It plans to include a special dividend of 10,000 won per share in its third- and fourth-quarter dividends, and to pay the remainder as part of its year-end dividend after its fiscal 2026 results are finalized.
Noh-Jung Kwak, SK hynix’s president and CEO, said on a conference call, “We have made it our principle to share most of the returns from strategic investments with our shareholders when they bear fruit,” adding, “We would like to return the gains realized this year from our Kioxia investment through a special dividend.”
