[Financial News] Police conducted a joint crackdown with relevant agencies targeting nightlife districts in Gangnam, Seocho and Yongsan districts of Seoul ahead of Halloween, but found no narcotics-related violations.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 31st that police, fire services and local governments had jointly inspected areas vulnerable to narcotics crimes during the late-night hours of the 30th.
The crackdown was part of the “Second-Half Pan-Government Joint Special Crackdown on Narcotics,” which has been underway since August 1. Inspections focused on clubs, entertainment venues and areas with large concentrations of foreign nationals, where crowds were expected to gather for Halloween.
About 20 police officers from the local police station’s dedicated narcotics investigation team and crime prevention and public order division, along with about 10 civil servants from district office sanitation departments, took part in the joint crackdown.
The targets were eight major clubs in Seoul: three in Yongsan District, three in Gangnam District and two in Seocho District. Police checked for violations of the Narcotics Control Act, while local governments checked for violations of the Food Sanitation Act.
No violations of the Narcotics Control Act were found in the inspections. Police plan to continue stepping up inspections and crackdowns in areas vulnerable to narcotics crimes, including clubs, entertainment venues and areas with large concentrations of foreign nationals.
A police official said, “We plan to protect the identities of people who report narcotics-related crimes and pay rewards for reports,” and urged the public to provide tips.
