[Financial News] Coliforms exceeding the permitted limit were detected in ‘Hanjeongseon Pistachio Glutinous Rice Cake,’ sold at GS25 convenience stores, prompting a recall. GS25 instructed stores to stop selling the entire product and discard their stock, regardless of the manufacturing date subject to the recall.
On the 30th, according to Food Safety Korea, operated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, ‘Hanjeongseon Pistachio Glutinous Rice Cake,’ manufactured by Roro F&B, was designated for recall and a sales halt for failing to meet coliform standards and specifications. The recall applies to 80-gram products bearing a manufacturing date of October 23, 2026.
GS25 said it had instructed stores to discard all pistachio glutinous rice cakes in their inventory for customer safety, not just products bearing the specified manufacturing date. It also instructed stores to issue refunds to customers who had already purchased the product.
The product was a collaboration between Roro F&B’s dessert brand Roro Mello and the dessert brand Hanjeongseon, and was sold exclusively at GS25. A follow-up to the previously popular ‘Hanjeongseon Yogurt Glutinous Rice Cake,’ it reportedly generated daily sales of 330 million won, according to Roro F&B.
A GS25 representative said, “We immediately halted sales of ‘Hanjeongseon Pistachio Glutinous Rice Cake’ for customer safety,” adding, “We will discard all units held at our stores and arrange refunds for customers who have already purchased the product.”
