[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on the 30th (local time), referring to the cost of the war with Iran, “Relatively speaking, we’re spending very little money,” and “We’ve recouped from Venezuela more than 10 times what we spent.”
At the White House that day, President Trump told reporters, “I spent a lot of money to eliminate nuclear weapons,” and stressed, “But I more than made back any money spent in Iran through what we did in Venezuela.” The implication was that greater gains had been made by securing Venezuelan crude after the operation to oust Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros earlier this year.
Asked about the possibility of negotiations to end the war with Iran, he said, “We’re talking. They (Iran) want to talk,” but added, “They aren’t paying the soldiers and police. They’re in serious trouble. Frankly, we have time.” The remarks came as preparations were underway to resume large-scale military attacks against Iran after the U.S. midterm elections on the 3rd of next month.
Earlier, U.S. media reported that President Trump had instructed Vice President JD Vance to send a letter seeking to resume negotiations to Mohsen Rezaee, a hard-liner in Iran and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
Also, in a radio interview that morning, President Trump said the war with Iran “would be over soon” and added, “We need a guarantee that there will never be nuclear weapons.”
