[Financial News] A memorial space honoring late actor Choi Bool-am (real name: Choi Young-han) has been set up at Green Umbrella's headquarters and on its website. Members of the public and supporters can visit the headquarters to lay flowers or leave messages of remembrance online.
According to Green Umbrella, a child welfare organization, the memorial space on the first floor of the Children's Foundation Building in Mugyo-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, opened at 5 p.m. on the 30th. Visitors can pay their respects from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on the final day, November 2, it will remain open until noon.
The online memorial hall on Green Umbrella's website shares stories of the charitable work the late Choi carried out during his lifetime and provides a space for people to leave messages of remembrance. It also has a KakaoTalk sharing feature.
For about 40 years, the late Choi worked with Green Umbrella to support children in Korea and abroad and promote charitable giving. He became associated with the foundation after a 1981 episode of MBC's drama Country Diaries featured Chairman Kim adopting Geumdong-i. In 1983, he became chair of Green Umbrella's Seoul Branch Supporters' Association, and in 1985 he was appointed chair of the National Supporters' Association. He continued his work thereafter, helping organize overseas supporters' associations and visiting aid sites in Africa.
In accordance with his wishes, the late Choi's funeral will be held as a Green Umbrella Children's Foundation funeral. Green Umbrella Chairman Hwang Young-ki said at the funeral home that Choi had expressed his wish for his funeral to be held as a Children's Foundation funeral.
The late Choi died at 10:30 p.m. on the 29th while receiving inpatient treatment at a hospital in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. He was 87. His funeral has been arranged in Room 20 of the funeral hall at Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
The funeral procession will depart at 7:40 a.m. on November 2. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. that day at Yeouido Catholic Church in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, celebrated by Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung. At around 10:40 a.m., after a farewell at Green Umbrella's headquarters, the procession will proceed to the crematorium. His burial site is Donghwa Gyeongmo Park in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
