【Financial News | Hoengseong = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Hoengseong County is working to develop rural tourism that encourages visitors to stay by bringing together farms that operate restaurants, accommodations and experience venues as one team.
According to Hoengseong County on the 30th, the county held the launch ceremony for its farm-centered rural cultural tourism governance at 4 p.m. that day in the main conference room on the third floor of the county office. Members of the rural tourism study group and teams participating in the governance initiative attended.
The governance initiative is a cooperative organization in which farms operating restaurants, accommodations, tourist attractions, experience programs and sales outlets share responsibility for five aspects of tourism: eating, sleeping, seeing, enjoying and shopping. The county plans to organize 20 teams of five members each, for a total of 100 people, and 18 teams have been formed so far. The county intends to use the organization as a stepping stone toward an era of 5 million tourists in Hoengseong.
This launch ceremony is the second phase of public-private cooperation, following the rural tourism study group launched on the 16th. The program included a progress report and welcoming remarks by Hoengseong County Governor Jang Sin-sang, followed by an explanation of the governance initiative’s phased growth strategy by Gachi CEO Choi Yeong-hwan.
The county plans to hold a demonstration of the Hoengseong Up Close platform and a tour of exemplary farms next month. In December, it will hold, in succession, a proclamation ceremony for the Rural Cultural Tourism Hoengseong Up Close campaign and a governance workshop.
“If farms connect with one another across everything from meals and lodging to experiences and the purchase of local specialties, we can make Hoengseong a place where tourists stay an extra day,” said Byeon Yeong-seong, head of Hoengseong County’s Agricultural Policy Division. “We will fill the remaining two teams to complete the 100-member organization and, starting with next month’s platform demonstration, bring forward the era of 5 million tourists.”
