【Financial News Chuncheon = Kim Gi-seop, Staff Writer】Gangwon Development Corporation worked with local public corporations from across the country to seek public urban regeneration solutions to restore vitality to declining old downtown areas.
According to Gangwon Development Corporation on the 30th, the corporation took part in Jeju Urban Forum 2026, held that day at Mandeok Hall of the Kim Man-deok Memorial Hall in Jeju, and discussed with officials from other local public corporations the direction of urban regeneration and redevelopment projects and ways to cooperate. At the forum, the Urban Regeneration and Redevelopment Council, comprising nine local public corporations from across the country, held a separate session on public urban regeneration strategies.
The participating institutions shared the results of a research project conducted jointly this year on directions for local public corporations’ urban regeneration and redevelopment projects. They reviewed the findings alongside each institution’s project experience and support policies for improving aging residential areas, and assessed the role public institutions should play on the ground in urban regeneration.
At the ensuing roundtable, participants discussed the challenges facing local projects, along with implementation approaches suited to each region’s circumstances and ways for the institutions to cooperate.
Kim Tae-heon, president of Gangwon Development Corporation, said, “The joint research project and on-site roundtable involving nine local public corporations have made clearer what the public sector should do to improve aging residential areas,” adding, “We will also apply the experience of other regions to the development of old downtown areas in Gangwon Province and build a public urban regeneration model tailored to local conditions.”
