[Financial News] A second joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire in Guryong Village, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, will take place on Nov. 2.
Police and other sources said on the 30th that police, fire authorities and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO) plan to conduct a second joint investigation at the Guryong Village fire scene at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 2.
The investigation is a follow-up inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire that broke out on the 27th. Relevant agencies, including the police and fire authorities, plan to investigate the cause through a joint inspection.
Earlier, a fire broke out at 3:50 p.m. on the 27th in Zone 2 of Guryong Village, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Dry weather and strong winds caused the flames to spread to nearby Zones 1, 3 and 7.
One person injured their leg in the fire, and 127 residents lost their homes. The displaced residents are now staying in temporary shelters set up at Gaepo Middle School and Guryong Middle School.
Guryong Village is an unauthorized shantytown formed by people displaced by demolitions and others who gathered there during Gangnam’s development in the 1970s and 1980s. Since it was designated an urban development district in 2016, the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation (SH Corporation) has been pursuing redevelopment as the project implementer.
Of the original 1,107 households, 950 have completed their relocation, while 157 have yet to move.
