[Financial News] Hyosung Heavy Industries is pursuing technological cooperation with Germany’s Siemens AG in digital power grids and AI data centers. The two companies plan to link their power equipment diagnostics and management technologies to establish an integrated diagnostic system covering everything from extra-high to low voltage, and to jointly develop digital substations and power management solutions for data centers.
Hyosung Heavy Industries said it signed a Global Strategic Partnership Agreement (GSPA) with Siemens AG on the 30th at InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas to cooperate on digital power infrastructure and data center solutions.
Attendees at the signing ceremony included Kim Jung-kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Stefan Rouenhoff, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy; Woo Tae-hee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries; and Jeong Ha-jung, CEO of Siemens Korea.
Under the agreement, the two companies will pursue medium- to long-term cooperation in three areas: digital asset management technology, digital substation solutions, and integrated power solutions for data centers. The key is to combine Hyosung Heavy Industries’ power equipment and engineering expertise with Siemens AG’s technologies for digitalizing power infrastructure and managing energy.
First, in digital power infrastructure, the companies will work to establish a diagnostic system that manages equipment across the range from extra-high to medium and low voltages. They plan to link Hyosung Heavy Industries’ AI-based power equipment diagnostic system, ARMOUR+, with Siemens AG’s cloud-based power management platform, Electrification X.
ARMOUR+ is a system that uses AI to predict signs of abnormalities and the service life of major power equipment, such as that found in substations. Electrification X is a platform for managing equipment conditions and power consumption in medium- and low-voltage distribution networks at facilities such as factories and buildings.
The two companies agreed to link the technologies to gain an integrated view of equipment conditions at each voltage level and to expand their cooperation in the future to include power load management and control security.
In digital substations, Hyosung Heavy Industries’ power measurement sensors will be linked with Siemens AG’s digital signal converters. The companies plan to collaborate on technologies needed to digitalize and automate substation equipment and to accommodate the equipment specifications of individual customers.
In AI data centers, the companies are pursuing plans to combine Hyosung Heavy Industries’ next-generation power conversion equipment—a solid-state transformer (SST)—with Siemens AG’s energy management system (EMS). They agreed to collaborate on developing solutions to manage data center power and improve operational efficiency.
“By combining our core technologies, we will go beyond supplying power equipment and take a leap forward as a global total-solutions partner covering all aspects of digital power grids and AI data center operations,” said Woo Tae-hee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries.
