[Financial News] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and KEPCO KDN will conduct field tests of technologies to predict failures in railway power facilities and improve energy-use efficiency. They will also review security systems to ensure the safe use of generative AI in railway operations.
KORAIL signed an MOU with KEPCO KDN at its headquarters in Daejeon on the afternoon of the 30th to improve the safety of railway infrastructure and energy efficiency. KORAIL President Kim Tae-seung and KEPCO KDN President Sang Hyoung Park, among others, attended the signing ceremony.
The two organizations will combine KORAIL’s experience in operating railway facilities with KEPCO KDN’s expertise in energy, information and communications technology (ICT), and information security. They will first work together to establish a predictive maintenance (PdM) system to detect anomalies early in power facilities, including railway traction substations, and prevent failures.
They plan to pilot an energy management system at railway stations to manage power consumption efficiently. They will also explore ways to improve energy efficiency by integrating regenerative power generated when trains brake with solar power generation facilities and other sources.
In the AI field, they will classify work-related data by importance and establish security standards for each level in accordance with the National Intelligence Service’s “Guidelines for the National Network Security Framework.” Starting in November, they plan to form a working-level consultative body to flesh out specific tasks and plans for field demonstrations.
“Together with KEPCO KDN, we will build a safe railway that identifies and prevents risks in advance, an efficient railway that saves energy, and a smart railway where AI can be used with confidence,” KORAIL President Kim Tae-seung said.
