[Financial News] In November, mandatory holding registration will be lifted for 109.23 million shares held by 52 listed companies. Most of the shares are concentrated among companies listed on the KOSDAQ market.
The Korea Securities Depository said on the 30th that mandatory holding registration is scheduled to be lifted for 109.23 million shares held by a total of 52 companies in November: four listed on the KOSPI market and 48 on the KOSDAQ market.
Mandatory holding registration is a system that protects retail investors by restricting major shareholders and others from selling shares for a set period. The mandatory holding period varies depending on the reason for the holding and the applicable regulations.
By market, 2.71 million shares will be released on the KOSPI market and 106.52 million on the KOSDAQ market.

On the KOSPI market, Samhwa Electronics has the largest number of shares to be released, at 2,263,085. This represents 12% of its total shares issued, and the shares will be released on November 20.
By reason for mandatory holding, the largest amount—68.48 million shares—was subject to the KOSDAQ Market Listing Regulations. A further 40.48 million shares were subject to the Regulations on Issuance and Disclosure of Securities, etc.
This tally covers shares registered for mandatory holding with the Korea Securities Depository as of the 28th. It excludes shares covered by voluntary holding commitments and shares subject to mandatory holding commitments during the initial public offering (IPO) process.
