[Financial News]  A job posting seeking someone to help a child get to and from school has sparked online controversy because it says only owners of imported cars may apply. The post, reportedly published on the secondhand marketplace Karrot, listed pay of 10,000 won per job.
Screenshots of a job posting reportedly uploaded to Karrot’s jobs board have recently circulated across various online communities.
The posting was titled “Someone Available to Pick Up My Child.” The poster was looking for a helper to take their child from home to school and bring the child back home after school.
The pay and duties were also specified. The poster said, “I’ll pay 10,000 won per job on the same day,” and added, “I’m looking for someone to pick up my child at home, take them to school, and bring them home from school.”
The child is a girl, and the school commute involves two trips in total. The poster explained that the transportation would take no more than 20 minutes and that no help beyond transporting the child was needed.
One of the eligibility requirements was owning an imported car. The posting did not explain why an imported car was required. The pay was 10,000 won per job, less than the 2026 minimum hourly wage of 10,320 won.
Another posting seeking someone to prepare dinner also sparked controversy online. The poster said they were raising three children—a 4-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl, and a baby—and that they were short on time because of childcare, making even deciding on a dinner menu difficult.
The duties were grocery shopping and preparing dinner. The posting sought someone who could prepare a meal for five people—three adults and two children—within an hour.
The hours were set at 5 to 6 p.m. every day, Monday through Sunday. The job required working one hour a day, seven days a week. The worker was to buy ingredients at a nearby market according to a meal plan provided by the poster, then prepare food for five people.
The requirements also stipulated that the meals should follow the set menu while being prepared like home-cooked food made by a mother herself.
The hourly wage set by the poster for the work, including grocery shopping and cooking, was 10,000 won.
People online questioned the requirements and pay in the two job postings. In response to the posting requiring an imported car, one person remarked, “Why would someone with the means to drive an imported car do that?” Another commenter asked about the dinner-preparation job, “Even if the market is really close, is it possible to shop, cook, and set the table in just one hour?”
