[Financial News] Mirae Asset Securities’ New York subsidiary will participate as an initial user of the tokenization service offered by DTCC, the U.S. financial market infrastructure institution. After continuing discussions with global financial institutions on tokenized securities, the subsidiary has signed an agreement to use the service, laying the groundwork for exploring ways to apply it in connection with its existing businesses.
Mirae Asset Securities said on the 30th that its New York subsidiary had signed an agreement to use DTCC’s Tokenization Service (hereinafter, DTS).
DTCC’s custody subsidiary, DTC, officially launched DTS on the 28th (local time). Mirae Asset Securities’ New York subsidiary was among the 20 financial companies that signed user agreements at launch. Global financial firms including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citigroup and Fidelity also joined as initial participants.
The agreement is significant because Mirae Asset Securities’ New York subsidiary has moved from participating in industry discussions on tokenized securities to preparing to use the service in practice. The subsidiary has been taking part in related discussions with major financial institutions through DTCC’s Digital Assets Working Group.
DTS is a major initiative DTCC has pursued to connect traditional financial markets with the digital asset ecosystem. It was developed based on feedback and collaboration through the working group. Mirae Asset Securities’ New York subsidiary plans to explore the business potential of tokenized securities, drawing on its experience in U.S. capital markets and its partnerships with global financial institutions.
The service’s core function is to represent rights to eligible securities held in custody at DTC as blockchain-based tokens. It supports conversion between conventional securities and tokenized securities while preserving ownership and economic rights in the underlying securities, as well as investor protection frameworks.
This enables rights to securities to be transferred to digital wallets and assets to be moved between traditional financial markets and blockchain-based digital environments. The system supports interoperability between different financial environments, broadening the potential uses of tokenized securities.
DTCC plans to use DTS to reduce the time required for asset transfers and collateral use, and to improve liquidity and capital management efficiency. It also aims to support institutional investors’ use of tokenized securities by applying to them the operating systems and controls used in existing financial market infrastructure.
A financial industry official said, “For the tokenization of securities to take hold in actual financial operations, it is important to improve the efficiency of asset transfers and collateral use while maintaining existing investor protection frameworks and operational stability.” The official added, “Securing an initial user base for the service alongside global financial firms could be a starting point for exploring ways to connect it with existing businesses, including collateral management and capital deployment.”
Mirae Asset Securities also plans to identify business opportunities in stages, taking the relevant infrastructure and market conditions into account. It will examine potential links with existing businesses, focusing on ways to increase the use of tokenized securities as collateral and improve capital efficiency.
A Mirae Asset Securities representative said, “Participation in DTS will provide an opportunity to broaden the potential uses of tokenized securities, drawing on our experience in U.S. capital markets and our partnerships with global financial institutions.” The representative added, “We plan to explore new applications connected with our existing businesses while linking traditional finance with digital assets.”
DTCC is a global financial market infrastructure institution that supports post-trade processing, including the clearing, settlement and custody of securities transactions. Its subsidiary DTC holds at least $114 trillion in assets under custody. DTS currently supports the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network, and plans to add more supported blockchain networks during 2027.
