[Financial News] A woman in her 20s who went to her former partner’s home, sprayed a flammable substance on her body and threatened to set it on fire has been arrested by police.
According to police on the 30th, Seoul Guro Police Station arrested a woman in her 20s, identified as A, in the act at around 7:20 p.m. the previous day in the Guro-gu area of Seoul. She faces charges including violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, making a special threat, trespassing, and preparing to commit arson of an occupied building.
A is accused of going to the home of B, her former partner, a man in his 20s, spraying a flammable substance on her own body and threatening him as if she were about to set a fire.
The investigation found that, starting on the 26th, while B was traveling abroad, A repeatedly sent messages on social media to people he knew. After learning of this, B filed a stalking report with police.
On the 28th, police responding to the report issued emergency measures against A, including a prohibition on approaching B. But just one day later, on the previous day, A violated the measures, returned to B’s home and committed the alleged offense, according to investigators.
Police had earlier sought provisional measures against A, including fitting her with an electronic tracking device and detaining her in a holding cell, but a court reportedly rejected the request. Investigators found that the two had previously reported each other to police several times over alleged dating violence and stalking.
Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A that day, citing the seriousness of the case and the risk of reoffending.
