[Financial News] On the 30th, President Lee Jae-myung presented an appointment letter to Special Inspector Choi Gil-soo and emphasized the importance of early response when problems arise and proactive prevention.
In a written briefing, Senior Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said that at a tea meeting following the ceremony for the presentation of commission and appointment letters at the Blue House that morning, President Lee told Special Inspector Choi that there was much to do and made the same request.
At the ceremony, commission letters were also presented to six chairs and vice chairs of committees directly under the president and three special advisers.
President Lee said the committees directly under him should play a substantive role rather than remain formal organizations, and asked them to provide effective advice. He also asked them to actively and frequently offer a range of opinions, given that experts from various fields had been brought together.
He also said that the committees serve as a channel for conveying voices from the field, adding that he personally follows up closely on what they report.
He asked Baek Jong-woo, vice chair of the National Committee for the Safety of People's Lives, to pay attention not only to deaths in industrial accidents, suicides and deaths of people living alone, but also to reducing traffic fatalities. The point, he said, was that the issue of around 20,000 people dying each year before reaching the end of their natural lifespan must be examined.
He told Park Jeong-hyeon, chair of the Local Era Committee, that there were many tasks to pursue, including balanced development and policies centered on local regions, and urged Park to fulfill the role faithfully.
He asked the newly appointed special advisers—Kim Kyung-soo for political affairs, Song Young-gil for peace and diplomacy, and Kim Byung-joo for defense policy—to bear in mind that their words and actions could be interpreted as the government's position.
The chairs and vice chairs of committees directly under the president who received commission letters that day were Gye Seung-gyun, chair of the National Intellectual Property Committee; Ha Jung-woo, vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee; Ki-Young Kim, chair of the National Library Committee; Baek Jong-woo, vice chair of the National Committee for the Safety of People's Lives; Park Jeong-hyeon, chair of the Local Era Committee; and Hong Mi-young, chair of the National Committee on Sustainable Development.
