[Financial News] Disney+ is launching a new ad-supported plan for 7,000 won a month. It will also raise the prices of its existing Standard and Premium plans, overhauling its subscription pricing structure alongside the introduction of a lower-priced option.
Disney+ said it will begin rolling out its Ad-Supported Standard membership on November 10. The date when users can sign up for the new plan may vary, but all users will be able to subscribe from November 17.
The Ad-Supported Standard plan costs 7,000 won a month, and ads may appear before or during content. It supports up to 1080p Full HD resolution and 5.1-channel audio, with simultaneous viewing on up to two devices. For an additional 4,000 won a month, users can register one family member or friend who does not live in the same household under a separate account.
Prices for existing memberships will also rise with the introduction of the new plan. For new subscribers from November 10 onward, the Standard plan will cost 11,500 won a month and the Premium plan 16,500 won a month. Existing subscribers will keep their current subscription prices for the time being.
Disney+ says it aims to give users more choice in light of their cost concerns and viewing preferences by introducing an ad-supported plan. Current Disney+ members can watch ESPN sports programming in addition to existing content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Hulu. It is also offering original content such as Made in Korea Season 2, A Shop for Killers Season 2, Sullae Game and The Remarried Empress.
Kim So-yeon, president of The Walt Disney Company Korea, said, “We will continue to offer a diverse range of entertainment experiences so fans can get even closer to the content they love.”
