“Please Donate Blood for a Specific Patient”: Blood Donation Certificate Contributions Pour In After Wondang Station Victim’s Husband’s Plea

[Financial News] Gyeonggi Province’s Goyang City. Ahead of a second surgery for a station employee injured in an attempted murder at Wondang Station, the victim’s husband appealed for designated blood donations needed for his wife’s operation. In response, appeals for designated donations and donations of blood donation certificates have been spreading across online communities.

The victim, station employee A’s husband, B, posted on the online community FMKorea, where he was active, on the 29th, the previous day: “Miraculously, my wife’s level of consciousness has improved considerably,” and “It looks like she’ll go in for a second surgery at around 5 p.m.”
B said, “She has lost so much blood that she needs a transfusion. I think my wife will be able to stay alive if she gets through the second surgery,” and appealed to people to “take part in a designated blood donation.”

A fortunately regained consciousness after undergoing emergency surgery and a second surgery on the 29th.
As the post drew attention, users of the same community began posting confirmations of donations of blood donation certificates. One user donated around 150 certificates they had collected over the years and wrote, “I started donating blood with the vague hope of helping someone, and today I feel good that I was actually able to help someone,” adding, “I hope this can be of some help, however small.”
Other users also shared photos confirming that they were making designated blood donations and wrote, “I joined right away when I heard they were calling for B+ donors,” and, “I’m donating blood for the first time in 12 years. I live in the countryside, where there’s no blood donation center, so I drove to a major city.” They added, “Stay strong, and I hope your wife makes a speedy recovery.”
According to the designated blood donation instructions B shared, the victim’s blood type is B positive, and the blood product needed is red blood cells (RBCs). Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) also sent official letters to stations requesting their cooperation with designated blood donations and urging employees to participate.

Earlier, at around 12:31 p.m. on the 28th, A was injured by a weapon wielded by fellow station employee C in the station office at Wondang Station on Seoul Subway Line 3, in Deogyang District, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. A suffered serious injuries to several parts of the body, including the neck and legs, and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police responding to a report arrested C at the scene, having caught C in the act.
C reportedly told police that after the victim muttered to herself, “It smells like cigarettes,” C sprayed air freshener on their own body and had taken too much of the medication they regularly used. However, C reportedly claimed not to remember what happened at the time of the crime.
Regarding the weapon used in the crime, C reportedly told police that they had been carrying two weapons in their bag for self-defense. Police plan to question KORAIL officials and investigate whether there were any problems with the related measures.
