[Financial News] A special collaboration partner will take the stage at this year’s K-pop awards ceremony, the ‘KM Chart Awards 2026’: Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) Gemini. From planning preliminary content to producing the opening video and staging major performances, Gemini will work alongside the production team. A global livestream will also let K-pop fans around the world watch the performances in real time on YouTube.
Google said on the 30th that it is partnering with the ‘KM Chart Awards 2026,’ taking place over two days starting November 20 at Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan, to produce performance content using Gemini and livestream the event globally on YouTube.
The most striking aspect of this collaboration is AI’s role. Gemini will be used not merely as a way to promote the performances but in the process of creating the stages. The MAMA production team plans to use Gemini from the planning stage for promotional content through to creating the awards ceremony’s opening video and major highlight performances. The effort combines Google’s generative AI technology with Mnet’s more than 30 years of accumulated expertise in producing performances.
This year’s MAMA has in particular previewed performances that blend music with film, animation, contemporary art and cutting-edge technology. BigBang, marking its 20th anniversary since debut, will present a special collaborative performance with the popular animated series ‘Dooly the Little Dinosaur.’ The group ENHYPEN is preparing a performance based on the world of the film ‘Dune: Part 3.’ There will also be a collaboration bringing the artistic world of contemporary artist Lee Bae to the stage.
With Gemini joining in, this year’s MAMA has become even more spectacular, bringing K-pop together with a variety of content and technology.
Another stage Google has prepared is YouTube. This year’s MAMA will add a YouTube livestream to its existing broadcasts and over-the-top (OTT) services. This will allow fans in major regions around the world, including Korea, to watch the same performances live on YouTube and interact with one another.
Fans can join live chats while watching the performances and enjoy related Shorts videos. Before and after the awards ceremony, they can enjoy music and videos by nominees and performing artists through YouTube Music playlists and Music Stations. YouTube is also collaborating on the presentation of ‘Best Music Video,’ a main award in the genre categories.
Through this collaboration, Google will be able to expand the use of Gemini into producing content for major performances and entertainment, while also strengthening YouTube’s competitiveness as a global platform. The partnership is significant in that it can showcase the potential uses of AI through K-pop, which is popular around the world, and encourage content consumption on YouTube spanning livestreams, Shorts and music listening. In effect, it is a strategy that leverages Google’s strength in having both AI technology and a content distribution platform.
This year’s MAMA will present performances crossing generations and genres under the theme ‘A MUSIC INTERSTELLAR (Music Interstellar).’
A Google representative said, “K-pop has now firmly established itself as a global cultural phenomenon, and our partnership with the ‘KM Chart Awards 2026’ is a meaningful collaboration that brings together Google’s core strengths, from our latest AI, Gemini, to YouTube, where fans from around the world gather.” The representative added, “Google and YouTube will continue to provide support through both technology and platforms so that K-pop’s spectacular visual storytelling and artists’ creativity can reach audiences around the world, and we will do our utmost to connect global fandoms.”
