SK Gas CEO Yoon Byung-seok named new president of SK Discovery

[Financial News] SK Discovery has appointed Yoon Byung-seok, president and CEO of SK Gas, as its new president. At SK Gas, Yoon has expanded the company’s LPG-centered business structure to include LNG and power generation. SK Discovery plans to complete its business portfolio restructuring this year and step up efforts to identify and commercialize new growth businesses starting next year.
SK Discovery said on the 30th that it had appointed Yoon as its new president to strengthen the competitiveness of its existing businesses and expand the foundation for future growth.
At SK Gas, Yoon was responsible for corporate support, gas operations, solutions and trading, and power generation, among other areas. Since 2018, he has served as president and CEO of SK Gas, focusing on expanding its LPG-centered business structure to include LNG and power generation.
SK Gas completed the Korea Energy Terminal (KET) in 2024 and began commercial operations at Ulsan GPS, a dual-fuel LNG/LPG power plant, in December of the same year. Ulsan GPS has a power generation capacity of 1.2 gigawatts (GW). Through these efforts, SK Gas established a business system spanning LNG imports, storage, supply and power generation.
SK Discovery completed its business portfolio restructuring this year, including the sale of SK eternix and SK D&D Co., Ltd. Building on this, it plans to step up efforts to identify and commercialize new growth businesses starting in 2027.
With this appointment, SK Discovery plans to strengthen the competitiveness of its energy, materials and bio businesses and pursue the identification of new businesses.
Meanwhile, SK Gas appointed Song Kyung-yeol, head of its strategy division, as its new president to succeed Yoon.
