[Financial News] With the U.S. midterm elections emerging as a major factor that could shape the direction of fiscal and trade policy during the remainder of the Trump administration’s term, South Korea’s financial investment industry is urgently assessing how the election results could affect global capital markets.
According to the financial investment industry on the 30th, the Korea Financial Investment Association will hold the “2026 U.S. Midterm Elections and Macroeconomic Outlook Webinar” at 10 a.m. on the 4th of next month, as votes in the U.S. midterm elections are being counted. Bloomberg Chief Economist Tom Orlik, a global macroeconomic expert, will speak at the event.
The U.S. midterm elections, scheduled for Nov. 3 (local time), are widely seen as a watershed that will help determine the balance of power in Congress and the direction of key policies during the remainder of the Trump administration’s term. The election results could affect the prospects for advancing fiscal spending and trade policies, making them a key factor for global financial markets to watch.
The webinar will focus on analyzing policy changes under different election scenarios and their potential impact on global capital markets, timed to coincide with the vote count. It will assess how potential U.S. policy changes could affect financial markets and international capital flows, and examine how South Korea’s financial investment industry should respond.
The speaker, Chief Economist Orlik, is a macroeconomic expert who has held positions including economist at the UK Treasury and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as Beijing correspondent for The Wall Street Journal. The webinar will assess the potential impact on the global economy and capital markets, focusing on policy scenarios expected after the U.S. midterm elections.
Kim Jin-eok, director of the External Policy Division at the Korea Financial Investment Association, said, “The U.S. midterm elections are an important factor in determining the direction of global financial markets going forward.” He added, “This webinar will give South Korea’s financial investment industry an opportunity to quickly understand U.S. policy changes and their market impact, and proactively reassess investment strategies.”
The webinar is open to employees of financial investment firms and members of the public, and real-time Korean subtitles will be provided. Participants can register on the Korea Financial Investment Association’s website through the 3rd of next month.
