The citywide survey was organized to visually express the theme of World Design Capital Busan, “A city that embraces everyone, design created together,” and to develop a brand that reflects Busan’s unique identity.
The three BI designs unveiled this time capture Busan’s natural environment and urban identity, as well as the values of inclusion and participation. Option A, “Waves of Design, Made Together,” uses curves that bring together Busan’s mountain ridges and the waves of the sea to portray an inclusive city where diverse citizens coexist.
Option B, “Layers Built Together,” portrays a city embracing the lives and cultures of the past, present and future through lines that layer the mountains, downtown and sea. Option C, “Busan, Connected Together,” depicts pieces from the city’s 16 districts and counties coming together as one, capturing a Busan that respects regional diversity and connects people with one another.
The preference survey will be conducted both online and offline. Any citizen can participate by reviewing the three designs and selecting their preferred one.
People can participate online through a NAVER Form survey link. The offline survey will be held inside Busan Metro stations at Nampo, Seomyeon, City Hall and Haeundae. The city plans to award coffee coupons to 500 survey participants selected by lottery.
The city plans to select the final BI after comprehensively reviewing the survey results and advice from design experts, among other input. The selected BI will be used alongside the official World Design Capital (WDC) logo at various events and in promotional materials, including next year’s “The Preview WDC,” to promote Busan’s urban identity and the values of WDC.
Mayor Jeon Jae-su said, “This BI is the new face of Busan as World Design Capital, created together with its citizens. Drawing on citizens’ diverse opinions, we will complete a brand that reflects Busan’s unique identity and build a World Design Capital that transforms citizens’ daily lives through design.”
