[Financial News] Coupang Logistics Services (CLS) will invest approximately 42 billion won in Busan to build an AI-powered smart logistics center.
According to industry sources on the 30th, CLS signed an investment agreement (MOU) with Busan Mayor Chun Jae-soo the previous day at the Busan Metropolitan City Investment Attraction Briefing for Companies in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, held at the Conrad Hotel in Seoul, to establish a smart logistics center. The agreement was pursued as part of Busan City's policies to attract local investment and create jobs, and three companies, including CLS, participated.
Under the agreement, CLS will invest approximately 42 billion won to build a smart logistics center in Yongdang-dong, Nam District, Busan. The project is expected to create approximately 670 new direct and indirect jobs. Busan City plans to provide administrative support to ensure the project proceeds smoothly.
The new logistics center will be built using four floors of a logistics facility with a gross floor area of approximately 100,000 square meters (30,000 pyeong). It will occupy approximately 44,000 square meters (13,000 pyeong)—half of the facility's eight floors—with trial operations targeted to begin within the year.
The center will introduce a smart logistics system that uses AI to integrate logistics processing and delivery functions. Products likely to be ordered by customers will be pre-positioned at nearby logistics hubs and dispatched promptly when orders come in. CLS plans to use the system to improve logistics operating efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of its delivery services.
CLS is expanding its investment in logistics infrastructure in major regions across the country, including Daegu, Jincheon, Chilgok, Gimhae and Jangseong, as well as Busan. The company expects this investment in Busan to help revitalize the local economy by strengthening logistics processing capacity while creating new jobs in the area.
CLS CEO Hong Yong-jun said, "With this investment in the Busan area, we will contribute to revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs, while further strengthening our competitiveness in customer service."
